Privacy Policy

PeakView

Effective21 May 2026
Version1.0

PeakView believes the customer relationship is sacred. The information you share with us — your name, your email, your shipping address, your ascent record — is held in trust, used only to operate this brand, and never sold.

This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, how we protect it, and the rights you hold over it.

01·Who we are

PeakView is operated by Matheo Girouard, founder and sole proprietor, operated from Canada. PeakView is the data controller for all personal information collected through peakview.store and basecamp.peakview.store.

Contact for privacy matters:
privacy@peakview.store

Mailing address:
Suite 1049
1055 West Georgia Street, Unit 220
Vancouver, BC V6E 3P3
Canada

If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom and would like to contact us about your data rights, the same address and email apply.

02·What we collect

We collect information in three categories.

Information you give us

When you join the waitlist, place an order, or create a Basecamp account, you provide us with:

  • Your email address
  • Your name (when you order or create an account)
  • Your shipping address (when you order)
  • Your billing information (handled by Stripe — we never see your full card number)
  • A username and password (Basecamp accounts)
  • Your date of birth (Basecamp accounts — we require all account holders to be at least 16 years of age)
  • Optional profile information (display name, profile photo)

Information you generate by using Basecamp

When you use the Basecamp service, the app records:

  • GPS coordinates during active tracking sessions
  • Route data, distance, elevation, pace, and timestamps
  • Summit logs (mountain name, date, GPS verification, optional photo, optional notes)
  • Activity history
  • Altitude Code activation records (when you redeem a frame)

Information we collect automatically

When you visit peakview.store or basecamp.peakview.store, our systems record:

  • IP address
  • Browser type and version
  • Device type and operating system
  • Pages visited and time spent
  • Referring URL

We use cookies to keep you logged in, remember your preferences, and understand how the site is used. You can decline non-essential cookies through the consent banner that appears on your first visit.

03·Why we collect it

We collect only what we need to operate the brand. Each category of data has a specific purpose.

What Why
Your email To contact you about your order, your account, your allocation, or marketing communications you've opted into
Your name and address To produce, ship, and deliver your frame
Billing information To process payment for your order
Account credentials To authenticate you securely when you sign in to Basecamp
Date of birth To verify you meet our 16+ age requirement
GPS and activity data To verify summits, calculate elevation toward The Mountain, and render your ascent record
Summit photos To verify ascents and, if you choose, display them on your public Climber profile
IP address and device data For security, fraud prevention, and operational diagnostics

We do not use your data for any purpose outside this list without asking you first.

04·What we never do

PeakView does not sell, license, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. Ever.

We do not run advertising networks. We do not place tracking pixels that follow you around the internet. We do not enrich your profile with data purchased from third parties. We do not let analytics companies use your data to train their models.

The customer relationship is the brand. We will not sell it.

05·Who helps us operate

PeakView is a small operation. We rely on a small number of trusted service providers — called "data processors" — to operate the brand. Each processor works under contract, has been selected for its security standards, and uses your data only to perform the service we've engaged them for.

Processor What they do What they hold Region
Shopify Inc. Storefront, orders, customer accounts Order and account data Canada / United States
Stripe, Inc. Payment processing Card and payment data only United States / European Union
Klaviyo, Inc. Marketing email infrastructure Email address, marketing consent record, engagement data United States
Supabase Inc. Basecamp database and authentication Account, activity, summit, and GPS data United States
Vercel Inc. Hosting and edge functions Request logs, IP addresses United States
Resend, Inc. Transactional email for Basecamp Email content and delivery records United States
Google LLC Workspace email for privacy@ and hello@ Email correspondence United States / European Union
Italian manufacturing partner Frame production and direct international shipping Customer name and shipping address European Union (Italy)
International shipping carriers Delivery (DHL, FedEx, UPS, or equivalent) Shipping address and contact information Varies by destination

If you are an EU or UK resident, you should know that several of these processors operate from the United States. Where we transfer your data to a processor outside your home jurisdiction, we use the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards as required by GDPR Article 46.

06·Email — what we send and why

PeakView sends two kinds of email. They are governed by different rules.

Transactional email

Transactional emails are sent because they are necessary for the service or the contract between you and PeakView. We send them whether or not you have opted into marketing. They include:

  • Order confirmations and shipping notifications (sent by Shopify)
  • Payment receipts (sent by Stripe)
  • Account verification and password reset emails (sent by Supabase)
  • Allocation offers when a Summit Series frame is available to you
  • Security alerts (new device sign-in, account changes)

You cannot unsubscribe from transactional emails because they are not marketing — they are part of the service you've requested.

Marketing email

Marketing emails are sent only with your explicit consent, captured through a clearly worded checkbox at signup. They include:

  • Waitlist Welcome correspondence
  • Allocation announcements
  • Summit Series drop announcements
  • Editorial updates from PeakView

Every marketing email includes a one-click unsubscribe link in the footer. You can withdraw consent at any time by clicking that link or by emailing privacy@peakview.store. Unsubscribe requests are processed within ten business days as required by Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).

We keep a record of when, where, and how you provided consent. You may request a copy of your consent record by emailing privacy@peakview.store.

07·Basecamp — a note on location and photos

The Basecamp service collects information that requires heightened care. We treat it accordingly.

GPS data

Location data can reveal sensitive patterns — where you live, where you work, where you worship, where you exercise. PeakView treats GPS data with the highest level of care.

We use GPS data only to verify summits, calculate elevation toward The Mountain, and render your ascent record. We do not share GPS data with advertisers, data brokers, or any third party for any purpose outside the operation of Basecamp.

Active tracking only runs when you start a tracking session in Basecamp. The app does not track you in the background.

Summit photos

When you upload a photo to verify a summit, you keep ownership of the photo. You grant PeakView a limited license to display that photo on your public Climber profile, within the Basecamp service.

We will not use your photos for marketing, promotion, advertising, or any other public-facing PeakView surface (Instagram, the storefront, press materials, anywhere) without contacting you first and obtaining your specific written permission for that specific use.

You can delete any photo from your account at any time. Deletion revokes our license to display it going forward.

Public Climber profile

Your Basecamp profile at basecamp.peakview.store/climber/[username] is public by design. Information shown on your public profile — username, total elevation, badges, public summit logs — is visible to anyone with the URL.

When you log a summit, you can mark it private. Private summits do not appear on your public profile.

08·How long we keep your data

We keep your data for as long as we need it to operate the brand and no longer.

Data Retention
Active account information For the lifetime of your account
Activity and summit data For the lifetime of your account
Order records Seven years, as required by Canadian tax law
Marketing consent records For the lifetime of your subscription, plus three years after unsubscribe
Transactional email logs One year
Web server logs 90 days

If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data within 90 days of the deletion request, except where retention is required by law (e.g., transaction records for tax purposes).

09·Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have some or all of the following rights over your data.

  • The right to access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • The right to rectification — correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete
  • The right to erasure — request that we delete your data ("the right to be forgotten" under GDPR)
  • The right to restrict processing — limit how we use your data
  • The right to data portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • The right to object — object to processing based on legitimate interest, including all marketing
  • The right to withdraw consent — for any processing based on consent
  • The right not to be subject to automated decision-making — PeakView does not currently engage in automated decision-making that produces legal effects

How to exercise your rights

Email privacy@peakview.store with the subject "Privacy Request" and a description of what you'd like to do. We may ask you to verify your identity before fulfilling the request. We will respond within thirty days.

Right to complain

EU and UK residents may also lodge a complaint with their national data protection authority.

Canadian residents may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca.

10·Minors

PeakView is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. Basecamp account creation requires verification that you are at least 16 years of age.

If you become aware that a minor under 16 has created an account or provided us with personal data, please contact privacy@peakview.store and we will delete that information.

11·International customers

PeakView ships globally. By placing an order or creating an account from outside Canada, you understand that your data will be processed in the countries where our data processors operate, including Canada, the United States, and the European Union.

We use Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent legal safeguards for any data transfer outside your home jurisdiction.

If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you have the right to receive the same protections under GDPR or UK GDPR regardless of where your data is processed.

12·Security

We protect your data with industry-standard security measures:

  • Encryption in transit (TLS 1.3) on every page
  • Encryption at rest in our databases
  • Two-factor authentication required for all internal access
  • Limited employee access — only Matheo Girouard, the sole operator, has administrative access to customer data
  • Regular review of access logs and security posture

No security system is perfect. If a data breach affects your personal information, we will notify you within 72 hours of becoming aware of it, as required by GDPR and PIPEDA, and we will report the breach to the relevant regulators.

13·Cookies

PeakView uses cookies in two categories:

Essential cookies — required for the storefront to function (cart, session, security). These cannot be declined because the site cannot operate without them.

Analytics cookies — help us understand how the site is used. These are opt-in only. The cookie consent banner that appears on your first visit lets you accept or decline these cookies. You can change your choice at any time using the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer.

PeakView does not use marketing cookies, retargeting pixels, or advertising network trackers. We never will.

14·Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will:

  • Update the version number and effective date at the top
  • Email registered customers about the change
  • Post a visible notice on peakview.store

We will not change this policy in a way that reduces your rights without first asking for your consent.

15·Governing law

This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of the Province of New Brunswick, Canada. EU and UK residents retain rights granted by their home jurisdiction's data protection laws regardless of governing law clauses.

Disputes about how we handle your data should be raised first by emailing privacy@peakview.store. If a dispute cannot be resolved directly, you may pursue the complaint paths described in Section 09.
